How to obtain Ukrainian and Russian citizenship for a child in Mexico – Childbirth in Mexico

Your child was born in Mexico and became a citizen of this country. But now the child needs to obtain citizenship of his parents’ country and a foreign passport so that he can experience all the advantages of dual citizenship. When you and your entire family decide to return home, your child will go there as a citizen of your state, without the need for entry visas.

It is allowed to grant a child citizenship of Ukraine, Russia or any other state and obtain a foreign passport only at the consulate of this power in Mexico City. In this case, the personal presence of parents and the baby is necessary.

If you don't live in the capital right now, you'll have to get on a plane and fly to Mexico City because all the consulates are located there. You must first make an appointment with the consul. This can be done by calling the numbers listed at the end of the article.

So, let's look at two steps that can be done simultaneously:

  • obtain Ukrainian or Russian citizenship for the child,
  • obtain a Ukrainian or Russian passport for your child.

Birth certificate

In order for a child born in Mexico to become a citizen of Ukraine or Russia, at least one of his parents must have citizenship of these countries.

In all cases, you should prepare the child's Mexican birth certificate in advance. It must be certified by an apostille and translated from Spanish into the language of your state. Moreover, the translation can be certified by the consulate in Mexico City.

Citizenship of Ukraine

In order for a child to obtain Ukrainian citizenship by birth, at least one of his parents must be a citizen of this state. Presence of one of the parents — a citizen of Ukraine is required when submitting documentation to the diplomatic mission in Mexico City. Consent of the second parent and his presenceno need. The child’s presence is required once, either when submitting or receiving documents.

The following documentation is submitted to the Ukrainian Consulate:

  • The child's Mexican birth certificate and its translated copy as described above. A copy will be taken from you.
  • Application for registration of Ukrainian citizenship — filled out at the consulate, signed by one of the parents — citizen of Ukraine.
  • Application for registration of a passport of a citizen of Ukraine for traveling abroad — filled out at the consulate, signed by one of the parents — citizen of Ukraine.
  • International passports of one or both parents — citizens of Ukraine, originals and 2 copies of pages with personal data.
  • Resident Card or FMM Mexico Immigration Form of Parent(s) — original and 2 copies.
  • Document confirming your residential address in Mexico. It is usually sufficient to provide an electricity bill from CFE, a landline telephone bill from Telmex, or a rental agreement.
  • Photo of a child, color on a white background, eyes open, mouth closed, no shadows, head position straight. 1 piece — size 10x15 cm, 2 pieces — 3.5x4.5 cm.

Price:

  • obtaining Ukrainian citizenship based on the citizenship of one of the parents — $30,
  • issuance of international passports for children under 16 years of age — $40,
  • Consular certification of the translation is paid additionally.

Payment is made in Mexican Pesos at any Scotiabank branch. Current consulate rate — 20 MXN for $1.

Deadlines: 1 month from the date of submission of documents. You can pick up your child’s passport in person or arrange with the consulate to send it to your address in Mexico by courier service.

Russian citizenship

Of course, it is possible for a child to obtain Russian citizenship upon arrival in Russia. But to do this, a Mexican child must first obtain a Russian visa in his Mexican passport. Such a visa can only be obtained if at least one of the parents is NOT considered a Russian citizen, and he will apply for a Russian visa for the child. If both parents are considered Russian citizens, a Mexican child will not be given a Russian visa. So it’s easier to get Russian citizenship for a child in Mexico.

In order for a child to acquire citizenship of the Russian Federation, at least one of his parents must be a citizen of this state. If the second parent is not a citizen of Russia, his written consent for the child to acquire Russian citizenshipno need.

The presence of both parents when submitting papers at the consulate in Mexico City is mandatory. At the same time, any parent can submit papers — citizen of Russia.

If one of the parents is absent, this must be documented by submitting an additional document:

  • the child has no father (no entry on the birth certificate),
  • divorce or death certificate,
  • a statement drawn up in any form about one parent’s lack of information about the location of the other parent.

The following documents are submitted to the Russian Consulate:

  • Mexican birth certificate of the child and its translated copy. You do not need to have your translation certified by an official Mexican translator.
  • Statement from one of the parents — citizen of the Russian Federation for the child to acquire Russian citizenship. It can be filled out at the consulate or on the websiteMinistry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.   • Marriage certificate (optional), original and copy. If the certificate was issued in another country (not in Russia), it must be apostilled and translated, and the translation must be certified by a sworn translator of Mexico or a diplomatic mission.
  • Photo of the child in color on a white background, 4 pieces, size 3.5x4.5 cm — only for issuing a non-biometric passport.

Price:

  • admission to Russian citizenship in a simplified manner — $65,
  • issuing an old-style international passport for a child for 5 years — $10,
  • procedure for purchasing a child a new international passport valid for 10 years — $40,
  • certification of the accuracy of the translation of birth and marriage certificates (if necessary) — $25 for 1 original page,
  • evidence of the accuracy of the signature on the consent of the second parent — foreigner — $15.

First, the consular officer will check all the papers, then issue a direction for payment, then you need to go pay. Payment is made in Mexican pesos according to the details provided by the diplomatic mission.

Preparing a new passport for a child is possible from the age when it is possible to photograph him without the participation of parents.
