How to drink tequila correctly - Mexican tequila and mezcal

Tequila is most often drunk neat, slightly chilled and poured into narrow glasses. But there are other options that reveal the taste of tequila.

Classic version — lemon and salt

The traditional combination of salt and lemon became popular largely thanks to cinema. A slice of lime is served to the glass, a little salt is poured into the palm, and the sour juice is squeezed onto it. The mixture is licked off and quickly washed down. Leftover citrus is suitable for a snack. If desired, a piece of lemon can be eaten before drinking alcohol. Under any circumstances, taste buds become sharper, and the flavors of the drink become brighter and richer.

Mexican style — juice and sangrita

Orange, apple, tomato juice — from personal partners for tequila. It is recommended to drink silver varieties of the alcoholic product with citrus fresh juice, and gold varieties — with tomato or apple. The mixed ingredients are drunk quite easily, but by the morning you can’t avoid a hangover.

Freshly squeezed juices help highlight the flavors of tequila. This fact contributed to the emergence of sangrita in Mexico — non-alcoholic cocktail, the basis of which is most often tomatoes. Pomegranate is still considered the true ingredient. Combined with lime, orange, chili pepper and jalapeño it becomes an excellent «hot» addition to the main drink.

An immediate effect is achieved by drinking three glasses in turn — with prepared «hot» composition, clear tequila and fresh lime juice.

Soda

For the silver type of alcohol in Mexico, sprite is chosen, for the gold type — Pepsi, cola. There are many recipes based on these components. Most of them also cover lime, cinnamon, lemonade and ice.

A method of drinking tequila called “tequila boom” has become widespread. The drink is diluted with sweet soda, covered with the palm of your hand and the bottom is sharply hit on a hard surface. The impact causes the contents to foam — in this form the composition is drunk. This method is famous for its entertainment and always stirs up the interest of the public.

Beer — part of bar culture

The experiment with adding beer to tequila seemed quite successful to many gourmets, which led to the emergence of the so-called “ruff”. The ratio of this product to tequila reaches 10:1. The cocktail is drunk immediately after preparation. The result is immediate — “fogginess” instantly appears in your head.
