Why do we warn in advance that knowing the language is so important? Because it is not us, not the employer and not the migration service, but only the Mexican consul who decides whether to give you a visa. To purchase a visa, we will provide a package of documents to which there will be no complaints. But you should understand that the result also depends on the impression you make on the consul.
What level of Spanish or English is required to successfully pass an interview at the Mexican consulate? No one will evaluate your language skills using the TOEFL, DELE or A1/B1 systems. For the Mexican consul, English is also not considered his native language, and he speaks it with the same pronunciation as you were taught in school, which makes it very easy to understand. Therefore, his level of language proficiency should be such that you understand the meaning of his questions and can answer them, even with errors. What are the chances of getting a work visa without speaking Spanish or English? Quite low, let's say. No matter how much you are convinced otherwise, knowledge of languages when obtaining a Mexican work visa has become extremely important in recent years. If 5 years ago Mexican employers were handing out job offers left and right, in recent years they have become more demanding in assessing candidates. Because the migration service has become much more demanding when providing work permits for foreigners, and it is not profitable for employers to contact the service for an incompetent candidate. This is a general trend that is also well known to consulates.
Another trend — an increase in the number of foreign workers from Latin American countries in Mexico. Most applications to consulates for work visas — precisely from them. They all know Spanish, and the appearance of a candidate among them without knowledge of the language arouses special attention from the consul. By the way, there are plenty of Americans too.
