While you may not need a visa to enter Mexico, a passport is not enough. The immigration officer upon arrival may ask you for supporting documentation:

  • Return ticket. This is a sore subject. If you do not have a return ticket, you may have problems entering Mexico.
  • Confirmation of the purpose of the visit. In most cases, this is a guest country voucher, a hotel reservation or your itinerary around the country. If you came to the country on business, justify the purpose of your visit with a letter from your partner.
  • Evidence of solvency. You can present cash or bank cards.

If you are flying to Mexico with a child but without the other parent, you should offer permission from the absent parent.

Of course, when going through immigration control, the attitude towards Americans, Canadians and Europeans is more loyal than towards citizens of other countries. At the same time, the criteria for entry into Mexico are the same for everyone, and other confirmations are also required from them.
