It is easier for citizens of Ukraine, Russia and Turkey to travel to Mexico without payingelectronic permission, in this case there is no need to go to the diplomatic mission.
The procedure for obtaining a resident visa, which is issued for arriving in Mexico in order to obtain a residence permit in this country, is described in other publications on our website. There are special standards for obtaining a state guest visa, but at the invitation of the company, for participation in sports competitions or public events.

A travel visa to visit Mexico should be obtained in the following cases:
- You are not a citizen of Ukraine, Russia or Turkey and were not born in one of these countries

In addition, you can save significantly if you do not fly out of Mexico by plane every six months to update your travel status, but leave and enter through the land border into Guatemala.
Mexico visa procedure
The Mexico visa process is quite normal. You need to create a package of papers and confirmations, including a completed application form, pay a consular fee (US$56 regardless of the type of visa) and submit all this to the nearest Mexican consulate.
You have the opportunity to apply for a Mexican visa in the country of which you are a citizen. If your country does not have a Mexican embassy, then in the country where the Mexican embassy is delegated authority to serve the citizens of your country. In rare cases, instead of submitting in person, you have the opportunity to use the services of accredited travel agencies. However, in most cases, obtaining a visa is only possible after visiting the consulate in person.
Contacts of Mexican consulates abroad can be foundHere.

Document requirements
Now we will talk about the basic standards for the content and execution of the documents indicated above.
Questionnaire
The application form must be in Spanish or English. Instructions for filling out can be found atlink. The application form must be downloaded, printed and filled out by hand or filled out in Adobe software and then printed. The questionnaire must be printed on one sheet of paper on both sides — this is an essential requirement. The completed application form must be signed.
The form must be filled out in Latin characters only. In this case, the names should remain without translation (for example, ulitsa Lenina, but not calle Lenina and not Lenin street). The first name, last name and signature must be indicated in the same way as on the international passport.
The minor's application form is signed by both parents, a person with parental rights, or a guardian in the presence of a consular officer.
International passport
Original and copies of all pages with visas and marks. Passport validity period — at least 6 months AFTER the expected expiration of the Mexico visa, in other words 1 year after the visa is issued. There must be 2 blank pages.
If you had a previous passport, provide that too (if you still have one). In addition, provide copies of previous foreign visas. An unofficial rule is that Mexico is better at opening visas to those who have had at least 3 trips abroad in the last year.
Photo
One recent color photograph measuring from 32 mm x 26 mm or from 39 mm x 31 mm on a white background, without corners or ovals, glasses or headdress, the face is completely open.
Air ticket reservation(depends on the consulate)
Book flights to and from Mexico. You should have tickets for the entire route from your country and back to your country. The dates on your tickets must correspond to the stated travel dates. The consulate has the opportunity to check the reservation, therefore it is better not to risk it and buy tickets.
Hotel reservation(depends on the consulate)
Reservations of one or more hotels must be for the entire period of your planned stay in Mexico. The diplomatic mission will not check the reservation. You can make a reservation on Booking.com and then cancel it.
The following few documents are required to confirm the financial viability of the visa recipient. They— the most important ones in the documentation set. The success of obtaining a visa largely depends on their compliance with the requirements. See the current criteria for financial support for obtaining a Mexico tourist visa in thispublications.
Certificate from place of work
Served in original. It must state that the employee has a permanent place of work, and in addition indicate the monthly salary for the last 6 months. The salary must be at least $1,434 per month (2026). In addition, the certificate must indicate the date of hire, position held and vacation period. It is important that the certificate states that your salary and position will be maintained during your vacation.
The certificate must be issued on company letterhead, indicating the company’s contacts (legal address, email address, contact phone number to confirm information, Taxpayer Identification Number and company website), date of issue, with the seal and signature of the official who issued the certificate.
You will find a template for a certificate of employment at the end of this publication.
If an employee works for an individual entrepreneur, a certificate of registration of the entrepreneur and a certificate of registration with the tax office are required (see below).
Significant!Mexican consulates in some countries, along with a certificate from the place of work, require a certificate of accrual and deduction from wages or a payroll from the company's accounting department.
Bank account statement
Originalextracts(not certificates!) from a bank account or statement of investments for the last 3 months with a monthly balance of at least $4432 (2025). It is better to immediately make an extract in English so as not to have to translate. There is no need to convert the local currency into dollars yourself.
For the Mexican Consulate in Istanbul: the statement must be certified by the signature and seal of the bank. You can be asked to show your statement in your bank's app from your mobile phone screen.
If the statement is from a foreign bank (not from the country of your citizenship), it must be notarized.
Property ownership document
Most often this is an optional document. However, if the certificate of employment indicates a period of work of less than 1 year, the salary or the status of the bank account is lower than the requirements set by the consulate, be sure to provide it. Mexican consulates in a number of countries require a document confirming the ownership of real estate.
The document has the right to indicate any real estate (house, apartment, land, etc.), equity participation is sufficient.
In addition, it is permissible to offer a document confirming ownership (ownership) or participation in a business, issued by the competent authorities of the state over the past two years.
Please note: consulates only work with documents, andpapers about your financial solvency are key. This means that special attention must be paid to the preparation of these particular papers.
Documents of an individual entrepreneur
Most often there are two of them. This is a certificate of registration of a private / individual entrepreneur and a certificate of registration with the tax authority and issuance of an individual tax number. This documentation may look different in different powers.
In rare cases, a diplomatic mission has the opportunity to request a tax return, usually for the last three reporting periods.
Pension certificate
Original and copy.
Certificate from educational institution for students
Served in original. It must indicate the course, specialization, and also the amount of the monthly stipend for the last 3 months. The scholarship amount must be no less than $847 per month (2026). The certificate must be issued on the letterhead of the educational institution indicating the date of issue, with the seal and signature of the official who issued the certificate.
If the scholarship amount is less than the required level, the student can provide both a certificate from the university and a certificate from the place of work.
Certificate from the place of study for children
A certificate from the school confirming that the student is attending school. There are no special requirements for the document; what the school provides is enough.
Confirmation of family ties
These papers are required if you are applying for a visa to Mexico as a family or sponsoring a relative who is receiving a visa. Parents and children confirm their relationship with a birth certificate, spouses — marriage certificate. For spouses with different last names applying for a Mexico visa, a marriage certificate must be included in addition.
If you are obtaining a Mexico visa in a country other than your country of nationality, all certificates must be certified with an apostille stamp, otherwise they will not be valid abroad. An apostille is allowed only in the country where the document was issued. Most often, apostille — not a quick process. For this reason, before going to the consulate abroad, first get an apostille, and then plan your travel dates for a visa.
Sponsorship documents
It is important to emphasize that only close relatives (spouses, parents, children) can be sponsors and only when:
- they receive a visa together,
- already have a Mexico visa — then you need to attach a copy of this visa,
- do not require a visa to enter Mexico due to their citizenship, the presence of a residence permit or visa of another state allowing entry into Mexico (attach a copy of the document), or the prospect of obtaining an electronic permit.
Parents have the right to be financial guarantors (sponsors) of a child under 18 years of age or a student under 25 years of age.
The criteria for a certificate of employment, bank account statement or real estate title for a sponsor are the same as described above.
It is important to know that, as a rule, Mexico only grants visas to dependents for 6 months.
Sponsorship letter
Written in free form addressed to the consul. It indicates the names and passport details of the visa recipient and sponsor, and their relationship. In the letter, the sponsor guarantees to cover the costs of transportation, accommodation, food and treatment for the duration of the trip (dates are indicated).
If obtaining a visa is joint, sponsorship letter — optional document. But if the dependent is receiving a visa separately from the sponsor, a letter follows.
Consent for the child to leave
If a child is traveling to Mexico with one parent or without parents, say, as part of a group, notarized consent for the child to travel abroad from the other parent or from both is required. It is required even if the country of your nationality does not require such documentation for the child to travel abroad. The consent is drawn up by any notary and must contain the wording “We (or I, if permission is from one parent), Sergey Ivanovich Ivanov, father, and Irina Ivanovna Ivanova, mother, give consent to the preparation and issuance of a visa to the United Mexican States for our minor son Ivan Ivanovich Ivanov, January 01, 2015 birth».
If a child receives a visa separately from his parents, in other words, they are not present at the consulate, or with one of the parents, a notarized consent of the parents is required for the child to purchase a visa. Exception — single mother or death of one parent; in this case, the relevant documents are submitted.
We wrote about the procedure for minors entering Mexico unaccompanied by parents or accompanied by one parentHerein the section «Entry with children».
Residence confirmation
If you are applying for a visa in your country of residence (non-citizenship), you will need a document confirming your legal status in that country. Most often we are talking about a residence permit, temporary or permanent. In a number of countries, this can also be a long-term visa, temporary residence permit, etc.
All original papers must be accompanied by one photocopy. All documents you submit to the Mexican diplomatic mission must be translated into Spanish or English without certification. Submitted documents, except passports and registration certificates, will not be returned.
Additional documents
Above is a list of basic documentation that each Mexican consular office requires when applying for a visa. But individual consulates may require additional documents that they believe will help them better evaluate the applicant. Not all of these papers are needed! To find out the exact list of required documentation, you need to submit a written request (by email) to the specific diplomatic mission where you will apply for a visa.
- Insurance. Although Mexican immigration laws do not require insurance when entering the country, some consulates believe that a visitor to the country must be insured.
- Travel plan or route around the country. If you bought a tour package, a travel voucher will be enough. If you are planning an independent trip to Mexico, the consulate has the right to ask what places you plan to visit. For this reason, it is better to have a written travel plan on paper. Read thispublication
- If you are a freelancer, the diplomatic mission has the right to request something that will confirm your activities. For example, this could be the result of your activities or a letter of recommendation from a foreign partner.
Interview
Mexican consulates are able to issue simple visas without an interview. However, when you apply for a visa at a consular department in a country other than your country of citizenship, there will be an interview. It examines the submitted documentation and asks simple questions about the applicant and the purpose of the trip to Mexico. Typically, the interview lasts 5-10 minutes.
The interview is conducted in English, Spanish or the language of the state where the visa is issued. Ignorance of these languages does not in any way affect the decision to issue a visa. You have the right to invite an interpreter to the interview.
Failures
The main reasons for refusal to obtain a Mexico visa — an incomplete package of papers or papers that raise doubts about their reliability. Forging papers is strictly not recommended. If you are caught cheating, your subsequent attempt to purchase a Mexico visa will also end in refusal. The insufficient financial viability of the applicant may also be a reason for refusal.
If you are denied a Mexico visa, find out the reason, correct the documents and try to get a visa again. You have the right to apply for a Mexico visa at least the next day after receiving a refusal, there is no «waiting period» don't eat.
You will expect a 10-year visa, but will receive a 6-month one. This means that the evidence that you are eligible for a 10-year visa turned out to be insufficient.
