In most cases, you will be allowed into Mexico without any problems with an American visa in your old passport, but there were exceptions. We should not forget that in addition to a visa, when entering Mexico, a tourist is also checked for return tickets, hotel reservations, sufficient funds and asked to confirm the purpose of the trip. A US visa does not eliminate the requirement to have all these documentation andconfirmation. If any of the papers are missing, a problem may arise with the entry permit.

There are no transit zones at American airports; for this reason, you must have an American visa to fly through the United States. If your destination in Mexico is Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, etc., you can easily find direct flights to these airports from the US, without having to make a connection in Mexico City or Cancun.
