Residents of most countries of the former USSR need a visa to travel to Mexico. To obtain a Mexico visa, you need to contact the consular department. Only at the Mexican consulate is it possible to obtain a Mexican visa, and nowhere else. You cannot get a visa on arrival. If the Mexican consulate in Tehran is closed for some reason (for example, due to military action), its functions are temporarily transferred to the Mexican consulate in Istanbul.

In addition, you can purchase a visa at a consulate in any country in the world in which you have resident status, and not just at the consulates indicated in the table. For example, to open a Mexico visa in Moscow you need to have one of three documents:

  • resident status in Russia,
  • temporary residence permit (TRP) with registration by the Federal Migration Service at the place of residence,
  • long-term Russian visa.

(note: since 2021, the Mexican consular department in Moscow does not issue visas to citizens of third countries, even with a residence permit in Russia)

Mexican consulates are quite strict in ensuring that their territorial powers are not violated. If you apply for a visa at a diplomatic mission that does not serve citizens of your country, your documents will not be accepted. At the same time, during the coronavirus epidemic, when some consulates were closed for quarantine, it was allowed to contact other consulates as an exception. Citizens of Azerbaijan were forced to go to Istanbul for a visa, but citizens of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, on the contrary, found it easier to go to Istanbul than to Tehran. Now the consular department in Tehran is operating as usual, therefore the consulate in Istanbul no longer accepts documentation from citizens of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

If you are planning to obtain a Mexican visa in another country, write or call the Mexican diplomatic mission in that country. Find out if your visa documentation will be accepted. One way or another, you will have to pre-register to submit papers, no matter which consulate you contact. Languages ​​of communication — Spanish, English or the language of the country where the consular section is located.

You can make an appointment at the consulates in Tehran and Bucharest through the electronic appointment system of the Mexican Foreign MinistryMiConsulado. These consulates do not accept appointments by phone or email. On the contrary, it is not possible to make an appointment at the consulates in Moscow, Baku, Ankara and Istanbul through MEXITEL.

But there is one important point. It is easier to purchase a visa at the Mexican consulate that serves your country. Consulates in other countries do not always know what the papers that citizens of your country must submit for a visa look like, and therefore have the right to be suspicious of such documents.
