Do you need a QR code at Mexico airport – Travel Updates

When a QR code is mentioned during air travel, we are usually talking about documents confirming the passenger’s health. Mexico does not require proof of health accompanied by coronavirus testing or show a vaccination certificate upon arrival. However, a QR code is required when entering Mexico(cancelled!). It will be on the health form that you need to fill out:

  • Arrival in Mexico:
    • online no earlier than 12 hours before boarding a flight to Mexico, or
    • on board the aircraft in paper form, or
    • at the airport upon arrival,
  • departure from Mexico:
    • on the Internet, or
    • at the airport when checking in for a flight,
  • domestic flights:
    • on the Internet, or
    • at the airport when checking in for a flight.

Under any circumstances, the health form must be completed no earlier than 24 hours before boarding the flight (valid for 24 hours) and only after the boarding pass with seat number has been issued.

At Mexican airports there is no complete health check of passengers. But since it is necessary to have a form, and filling it out is not a big deal, it is better to fill out the form anyway. When checking, only the QR code is looked at, and not the data entered into the form. How to correctly fill out a health form for Mexico, we described in thispublications.

Other countries may also require health documentation for entry or transit, in which case the airline will ask the passenger for these documents upon landing at a Mexican airport. The QR code will be on the following documents:

  • coronavirus test results,
  • vaccination certificate,
  • a doctor’s conclusion that the passenger has had coronavirus.

Most airlines do not conduct a thorough check of health documents by scanning a QR code. However, there are random tests, and some laboratories send test results directly to airlines. Iberia, for example, requires that the passenger independently upload the test result to a special mobile application before checking in for a flight.

Usually it is enough to provide the test result in the original on paper or in the form of an electronic file received from the laboratory, from the screen of a mobile phone. The presence of a QR code or two-dimensional bar code on the test result is mandatory. We told you what a correct coronavirus test result should look like.Here.

Mexico only recently began issuing vaccination certificates. These certificates also contain a QR code and are accepted by many countries. Such a certificate can be used for travel to those European powers that allow entry to vaccinated travelers. Under such circumstances, what is more important is what vaccine was used. The vaccine listed on the certificate must be one approved in the country of destination.
