During the time of coronavirus, the number of available routes from Europe to Mexico has sharply decreased. During the current period, direct flights are again available from Russia. In addition, from Ukraine, Russia and Belarus, flights to Mexico City or Cancun are possible only through:
- Istanbul (Turkish Airlines),
- Frankfurt (Lufthansa),
- Paris (Air France),
- Amsterdam (KLM),
- Madrid,
- Lisbon,
- USA — subject to restrictions.
There are other lesser-known routes and airline combinations.
Here we have collected all possible plane routes from Ukraine, Russia and Belarus to Mexico that are currently available. We plan to update this publication as changes occur in the future. If we haven’t indicated a route, it means we don’t consider it relevant.
The situation changes almost daily. Some powers are strengthening quarantine restrictions, while others, on the contrary, are lifting them. We have not indicated all flight details. There may be other specifics, for example, your citizenship or what country you visited shortly before traveling to Mexico. If you require more information on a specific route, ask in the comments below the post. We also publish important news on the main routes in thissection.
In the publication under «CIS» We understand any city in the territory of the countries of the former USSR, from where there are flights to Istanbul, Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam, London or the USA.
Important note. If you purchase a ticket through an aggregator website, pay attention to connections. If «docking is indicated» or «independent baggage transfer», study the details of such a connection to avoid surprises.

Direct flights Moscow — Cancun
They are operated by two airlines:
- Azur Air — 2 times a week,
- Nordwind — 3 times a month,
- Aeroflot — 5 times a week.
Rules apply for entry into Mexico, and on the way back — to Russia.
To Mexico:

To Russia for Russian citizens:
- Testfor coronavirus is not required upon landing; it is done upon arrival.

Via Istanbul
CIS — Istanbul — Mexico City / Cancun
Flight segments and airlines:
- CIS — Istanbul: any airline. If it's a low-cost airline, you'll have to make your own connections and reload your luggage.
- Istanbul — Mexico City / Cancun: Turkish Airlines.
OR
- CIS — Mexico City / Cancun: Turkish Airlines. This is a single ticket; connections are arranged by the airline. This is currently the most popular route to Mexico.
Features of the route: when flying from Istanbul to Cancun, there is a technical stop in Mexico City without leaving the plane; when flying from Mexico City to Istanbul, there is a technical stop in Cancun without leaving the plane.
You do not leave the transit area of the airport in Istanbul:
- Visanot needed.
- Testnot needed for coronavirus.
- Health formfilled out electronically before boarding the flight or on paper on the plane.
- BaggageThe airline is overloaded. If you are flying to Istanbul on a regular airline, say, UIA or Aeroflot, baggage reloading on Turkish Airlines is also possible.
You are leaving the transit area of Istanbul airport:
- Visanot needed.
- Testneeded for coronavirus. The PCR test must be taken no earlier than 72 hours before boarding a flight to Turkey and presented in English or the language of the country of departure.
- Health formmust be completed electronically no earlier than 72 hours before arrival, if there are more than 24 hours between transfers.
- Baggageyou are overloading yourself. If you fly to Istanbul with a low-cost airline, you will have to go through passport control to enter Turkey (no visa is needed, but you need a coronavirus test), purchase luggage, check your luggage for the next flight and go through passport control to leave.

CIS — Istanbul — Bogota — Panama — Mexico City / Cancun
Flight segments and airlines:
- CIS — Istanbul: any airline. If it's a low-cost airline, you'll have to make your own connections and reload your luggage.
- Istanbul — Bogota — Panama — Mexico City or Cancun: Turkish Airlines. There is a technical stop in Bogota; passengers do not leave the plane. Segments Panama — Mexico City or Panama — Cancun is operated by Copa Airlines under an interline agreement with Turkish Airines. The validating carrier is Turkish Airines.

- CIS — Mexico City or CIS — Cancun: Turkish Airlines. This is a single ticket; connections are arranged by the airline.
Feature of the route: on the way back the route is shorter by 1 segment: Mexico — Panama — Istanbul — CIS.

CIS — Istanbul — Frankfurt — Mexico City / Cancun
This and subsequent routes through Istanbul and Europe may be useful to Russian citizens. Türkiye is among the countries where flights from Russia are allowed. If you do not have residence or citizenship of Mexico or the European Union, you may not be allowed on a direct flight from Russia to the EU, since passenger flights there are not allowed. But you are allowed to fly to the EU via Turkey.
Citizens of Ukraine and Belarus are able to skip this and other routes through Istanbul.

- Istanbul — Frankfurt: Turkish Airlines or Lufthansa.

- USA — Mexico: any American or Mexican airline.
OR
- CIS — USA: Turkish Airlines. This is a single ticket; connections are arranged by the airline.
- USA — Mexico: any American or Mexican airline.
In the US, Turkish Airlines flies to New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Houston and 5 other airports. From there you can connect to many major airports in Mexico.

For connections at US airports:

- Vaccination certificateneeded.
- Testfor coronavirusneededfor passengers over 2 years old:
- an antigen test taken no earlier than 72 hours before boarding the flight, OR
- Real-time PCR test taken no earlier than 72 hours before boarding the flight, OR
- rapid PCR test (LAMP) taken no earlier than 72 hours before boarding the flight, OR
- (for passengers who have recovered from illness) a document of recovery + a positive antibody test done within the last 90 days.
- Health form(passenger tracking) is needed.
- Baggagereboots on its own. During transit, luggage is checked into the transit belt and not at the check-in counter.
UPD. From December 6, 2021, the expiration date of any test for all passengers reaches 1 day, rather than 3, without exception.

Through the EU
As we said above, Russian citizens without residence or citizenship of Mexico or the European Union may not be allowed to board a flight to the EU. We strongly advise you to clarify this issue with the airline before purchasing a ticket. At the same time, restrictions do not apply to flights from the EU to Russia.
CIS — Frankfurt — Mexico City / Cancun

CIS — USA — Mexico
Flights from Russia to the United States may not allow you to board without US residence or citizenship. There are no flights from Belarus.

- CIS — USA: Aeroflot or UIA.
- USA — Mexico: any American or Mexican airline.
OR
- CIS — Mexico: Aeroflot + Aeromexico. This is a single ticket. During the pandemic, only Aeromexico is sold with a route starting in Mexico.
There are quite a few combinations of US and Mexican airports for flights on this route. Aeroflot flies to New York, Washington, Miami and Los Angeles. UIA flies to New York.
For connections at US airports:

CIS — London— Cancun
We are not considering this route due to the need to change the airport in London, which is not allowed under current criteria even with a UK visa.
Flights of the Ukrainian airline UIA from Kyiv to London-Gatwick do not connect with British Airways flights from Gatwick to Cancun.
