Guatemala is open to foreign visitors from entering the country. Like many other countries, Guatemala requires proof of passenger health. The rules for entering the country related to coronavirus are quite simple, and now we will tell you about them.
So,for entryTo Guatemala, a foreign passenger needs to have one of 2 main documents:
- a negative result of a coronavirus test taken no earlier than 72 hours before boarding a flight to Guatemala or before crossing a land border. The test can be PCR and antigen, OR
- proof of vaccination with two doses of coronavirus vaccine (Johnson & Johnson — one dose). Vaccination must be completed no later than 14 days before arrival in the country.
The certificate is needed for those who are 12 years old or older, test — who are 10 years old or older. In other words, children under 10 years old do not need a certificate or test to enter Guatemala.
Documentation can be on paper or electronically. Language — Spanish, English, when arriving in the country by air — any that airline employees understand when checking in for a flight.
All land border crossing points are open. When entering by land, you can take a rapid test at the border costing US$ 25 or 200 quetzals.
There is no random testing on arrival.
Guatemala is vaccinating its population with the following vaccines:
- BioNTech, Pfizer,
- Oxford, AstraZeneca,
- Moderna,
- Sputnik V
However, Guatemala accepts proof of vaccination with other vaccines, and there are no requirements regarding which vaccine a foreign traveler should be vaccinated with. Guatemala also includes its citizens vaccinated abroad with other vaccines in the national registry of vaccinated people. A foreign certificate must be issued by a government medical authority.
Previously, Guatemala allowed the provision of medical papers of recovery instead of tests, however, the new directives say nothing about this method of confirming the health of the passenger.
When entering the country, citizens and residents of Guatemala only need to show either a coronavirus test or a vaccination certificate. A rapid test is allowed upon arrival at the airport.
You should NOT:
- children under 11 years of age must be tested for coronavirus,
- children under 13 years of age must be provided with a vaccination certificate,
- fill out a health form upon arrival,
- undergo mandatory quarantine.
Passengers from the following countries are prohibited from entering the country: South Africa, Egypt, Mozambique, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, Zimbabwe due to the spread of the omicron strain in these countries.
In Guatemala
Important: protective masks must be worn «always and anywhere». The fines for violating this rule are quite high.
There is no curfew. Movements between regions are not limited.
All establishments operate in the country, but with some restrictions. Visits to beaches, resorts and water parks throughout the country are permitted. Fairs and markets are allowed, but parties, concerts and «any other events that create a crowd of people»are prohibited in municipalities in the red and orange zones. There are restrictions on maximum capacity — 50%. You should close almost all establishments and events at 21:00.
