Personal presence
Personal presence is required:
- both parents.
- one of the parents with a notarized power of attorney from the other to purchase a passport for their child. The power of attorney must be issued only in Mexican territory;
- guardian.
The personal presence of a minor is not necessary.

Required papers
To confirm a child's citizenship:
- Original and certified copy of birth certificate issued by Registro Civil in Mexico, or
- An original and certified copy of a birth certificate issued by a Mexican consulate abroad (if the child was not born in Mexico but immediately became a Mexican citizen), or
- Original and copy of the naturalization document (if the child was naturalized in Mexico).

To confirm your child's identity:
- Original and copy of a certificate from the treating pediatrician (Constancia pediatrica para el tramite de pasaporte) indicating the child’s age (for preschool children), or
- Original and copy of a valid school ID with the stamp of the Mexican Ministry of Public Education (SEP) and the signature of the director, or
- Original and copy of training certificate (for students), and/or
- Original and copy of the national ID card for people with disabilities, or
- Original and copy of school certificate issued by SEP.
He must have a recent photograph of this document, and his data must completely match the data in the birth certificate or in the naturalization document.
Typically, pediatricians do not provide a certificate if they have not observed the child for at least several months. In this regard, make sure to obtain such a certificate in advance.
To confirm the degree of relationship and the identities of the parents or guardian:
- An original and copy of a valid Mexican passport of both parents or guardian, or
- Original and copy of INE voting document, or
- Original and copy of professional license, or

To confirm payment:
- Original bank receipt or proof of payment from a bank account digitally stamped by the financial institution.
Price of a passport for a child (2023)
- Valid for 1 year: 815 MXN
- Valid for 3 years: MXN 1,585
- Valid for 6 years: MXN 2,155
Children under 3 years of age have the opportunity to obtain a passport for only 1 or 3 years.
A discount of 50% of the cost of the passport is provided for children with disabilities, which must be confirmed by a certificate issued by a health or social welfare institution, or a certificate for people with disabilities issued by the National Integral Family Development System (DIF).
Deadlines
