Buying a used car is a no-brainer for Mexicans. No notarial acts are required, but originals of all documentation are required and necessarily — the previous owner has no dogs. For foreigners who are in Mexico as a guest of a country, purchasing a used car is also possible. However, buying a car and then selling it at the end of your stay in Mexico is often more profitable than renting a car for the entire period.
In this article we will tell you where to find a used car in Cancun to buy it.
How to buy a used car in Mexico, we explained in thispublications.
Automotive markets
There are several car markets in Cancun, or more accurately, places where you can buy a used car.
One of the main places — on the grounds of the Quintana Roo Olympic Stadium, on the corner of Rodrigo Gómez (Kabah) and La Costa avenues. Even just passing by, you will notice that many cars parked in the parking lot at the stadium or on the street nearby have a $ sign painted on the rear or front window, indicating the year of manufacture of the car and the owner’s phone number. The price should be negotiated individually. In addition, motorcycles, minivans, caravans, etc. are sold there.
The car market on the territory of the stadium is open daily, but the most active trade — on weekends.
The next popular place is located on Avenue Nichupte, on the corner with Avenida Chac-Moul (or 121st street) and right next to the Soriana Nichupte hypermarket. The area is unorganized, but there are a lot of cars, and prices are often lower than at the stadium. Address: Av. Nichupte s/n esquina av. Chac Mool, 77535, Cancun.
Directly opposite, diagonally across the Nichupte — Chac-Mul is another small car market. It is less organized, cars are sold from the ground, but it will cost you to come here too.
We wouldn’t call the following places markets either, but rather commission platforms, although Google lists them as tiangius, in other words, a market.
- SM 97, Mz 14 Lt 6-02, Avenida Andrés Quintana Roo, 77530 Cancún, Q.R.
- SM 95, Av. Nichupté 18, Cecilio Chi, 77534 Cancún, Q.R.
- SM 62, Mz 5 Lote 1-2, Av Chichen Itza, 77509 Cancún, Q.R.
- SM 513, Av. Nichupté s/n, 77500 Cancún, Q.R.
- SM 64, Av. López Portillo 87, Fovissste, 77524 Cancún, Q.R.
And there are a lot of such commission sites in Cancun.
There are similar sites for selling used cars in Playa del Carmen. One of them is located atCalle 3 Sur s/n, Ejidal, 77712 Playa del Carmen.
Internet sites
The most popular online site for finding used cars isMercado Libre. At the time of writing this article, this marketplace offers over 125,000 different vehicles from all over Mexico.
Automotive part of the Mercado Libre global website — It’s just a bulletin board; sellers need to be contacted and negotiated individually.
Other popular sites for finding used cars in Mexico are:
- Libro Azul
- Seminuevos
- Carros.com
- Cambiauto— In addition, they offer a service to check the technical condition of the car
and many more.
Often used cars are offered on the Mexican websites of the manufacturers themselves, for example, completely updated or after campaigns to exchange old cars for new ones.
On social networks
There are a number of groups on Facebook with numerous members buying and selling cars. Let's say
- Autos Usados Cancún
- Venta de autos usados y seminuevos
- Ventas de autos usados cancun
- Venta de autos seminuevos en Cancun QROO
In fact, there are a lot of such groups. Enter the phrase «ventas autos cancún» into the Facebook search field. and follow the links provided.
The advantage of Facebook groups is that you have the opportunity to post an adabout the purchasecar, indicating your price limit, and then choose from incoming offers.
Sometimes cars are sold by compatriots in Russian-speaking groups. They came to Mexico for the winter or to give birth to a child here, bought a car, and before leaving they would like to sell it.
On the street
Another popular method of buying a used car in Mexico — negotiate with the seller right on the street. If the owner wants to sell his car, he sticks or paints a $ sign and his phone number on the rear window and continues to drive the car. «$» means the car is for sale. Mexicans are not shy about calling or sending WhatsApp messages to find out the condition and price of a car.
We suggest that a car found by any means be thoroughly checked for technical condition before purchase. The quality of roads in Mexico is good, however, owners treat cars not as a luxury, but as a means of transportation — Over the course of several years of merciless operation, the technical condition of the car can differ markedly from the original.
