In the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, it is possible to obtain a copy of your driver's license electronically. This chance is available to those who already have a driver’s license in the form of a plastic card.
The main advantage of an electronic ID — it cannot be forgotten or lost. You always have it on your phone, even if you forgot your plastic license at home. This is a complete analogue of plastic rights, with the same personal data and validity period.
At the request of the traffic police inspector, it is enough for the police to show the electronic license from the phone screen, and not look for plastic ones in a bag or glove compartment.
To purchase (more precisely — activate) an electronic driver's license, you need to follow a few simple steps.
1. Go towebsiteMobility Directorate of the State of Quintana Roo.
2. Provide your mobile phone number and FOLIO of your driver's license. On licenses of the 2026 sample, the folio number is indicated on the front side at the very bottom under the personal data. Then click on the Buscar button.
Next, you will see your ID details on the right and activate the digital version.
3. After activation, the digital driver’s license can be saved as a file on your phone or added to digital wallets Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
The electronic version is available for driver's licenses issued after January 1, 2024.
