Mexico has strengthened its position on the continent's travel map, ranking second among all countries in the Americas. The country received 45 million foreign tourists in 2024, up 7.4% from the previous year, Mexico's Tourism Ministry said, citing data from the United Nations Tourism Office (UNWTO).
In terms of inbound tourism, Mexico was second only to the United States, which recorded 72.4 million international arrivals, and ahead of Canada (19.9 million) and the Dominican Republic (8.5 million).
These figures reflect the number of visits by tourists who entered the country at least once during the year and stayed for one or more nights, according to the UNWTO international statistics methodology.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, noted that the 2024 indicators confirm Mexico’s strategic position and sustainable interest in its cultural, natural and gastronomic diversity. «The fact that Mexico received 45 million foreign tourists in 2024 confirms that our country is a global tourism hub», — stated the minister.
Growth continued in the first half of 2025, with 23.4 million travelers visiting the country, up 7.3% from the same period last year and exceeding Canada's annual total for 2024. Tourism income in January-June 2025 amounted to US$18.68 billion, up 6.3% from a year earlier and 43.1% above pre-Covid 2019 levels.

According to Mexico's own statistics, a total of 86.4 million foreign travelers visited the country in 2024, which is 15.5% higher than the 2023 result. Of these, 23.2 million arrived by air, leaving the country with an average of $1,167 per person — the figure increased by 3.6% compared to the previous year.
86.4 million — a broader total of inbound persons from abroad that covers travel that is not typically classified as international tourism: day visitors (those who cross a border but do not stay overnight) and short-term business or cross-border visits.
