As of July 1, 2025, Cuba will introduce a mandatory electronic visa (eVisa) process for international travelers, replacing traditional travel cards. This measure, previously announced by the Cuban authorities, comes into force against the backdrop of a protracted crisis in the state-owned industry of the country and is designed to simplify the entry process for foreign guests.
The tourist card, the main document for entering the country for decades, will no longer be issued. At the same time, previously issued cards will remain valid until December 31, 2025. After this date their use will be permanently discontinued.
The new e-visa is issued entirely online through the platformEvisa, without the need to visit consulates or submit paperwork. It gives the right:
- for a single entry into the country,
- with a stay of up to 90 days,
- with the possibility of extension in Cuba.
The same applies to the guest country map.
The Cuba e-Visa application process takes just a few steps:
- Filling out the form online.
- Attach a copy of a valid passport.
- Payment of the consular fee.
Standard fee amount — 25 US dollars, but it depends on the country of origin: US citizens — 50USD, EU citizens — 22EUR (~23USD), citizens of Mexico — 575 MXN (~27USD).
- Receive a visa by email within 72 working hours.
There are exceptions. An e-visa is not required:
- permanent residents of Cuba,
- guest to states from countries that have a visa-free regime with Cuba, including Russia and Belarus,
- Canadians arriving on direct flights from Canada - the cost of the visa is already included in the air ticket price.
An e-visa to enter Cuba is still required for citizens of Mexico, Ukraine and several other countries.
Regardless of whether they have a visa, from 2023 all foreign travelers are required to fill out the D’Viajeros form at thiswebsite. The form indicates:
- passport details,
- health information,
- customs information.
The form is submitted online prior to departure and verified upon boarding the flight and upon arrival in Cuba.
The Evisa platform has been operating for about a year, but was previously used in a limited mode and in parallel with guest state cards. Now it becomes the only official registration channel.
The decision to switch to eVisa was made against the backdrop of a serious downturn in the country's tourism sector. In 2024, Cuba did not even reach half of the pre-Covid levels in terms of the number of foreign guest countries. The innovation should not only simplify administration, but also increase the attractiveness of Cuba for digital visiting powers, which expect minimal formalities and full online paper processing from the power.
