Appointments via the CBP One app are now available at the Guatemalan border - Migration News

The CBP One app is no longer operational and INM travel corridors to the US border have been cancelled.

The CBP One mobile app is now live at Mexico's southern border. CBP One allows you to be designated to formally file an asylum claim in the United States at the Mexico-US border. Previously, migrants who wanted to obtain appointments to file through the app had to drive to the U.S. border after entering Mexico because the app only worked in areas bordering the United States. Because many migrants entered Mexico illegally or were about to expire, Mexico's immigration authorities could detain them before they could complete their appointment through CBP One. Most often, detentions occurred during crossings or flights through Mexico to the border with the United States. Migrants can now access the application immediately after entering Mexico from Guatemala.

Moreover, the Government of Mexico and the National Institute of Migration (INM) have identified 2 corridors through which refugees who already have an appointment with CBP One can safely proceed to the US border without fear of being detained. The Mexican Migration Service promises to provide such migrants with buses for overland travel to various border crossing points with the United States, provide security and even provide food. The buses will transport migrants to eight ports of entry along the US border: Brownsville, Eagle Pass, Hidalgo, Laredo, El Paso (Paso del Norte), Nogales, Calexico and San Ysidro (El Chaparral).

In addition, such migrants will be provided with temporary migration documentation — a paper migration form FMM, which will allow you to legally stay in Mexico for up to 20 days.

There will be 2 exit points along these corridors, located at the migration station in Villahermosa, Tabasco state, and at the Southern Zone Immigration Administration Office in Tapachula, Chiapas state. To obtain temporary immigration papers and reserve bus seats, migrants approaching their CBP One paperwork appointments should contact designated immigration stations. Priority for seats on buses will be given to families.

Buses officially authorized to transport migrants will be escorted by federal and state security officials.

The National Institute of Migration reports that there are now 300 people already registered at the Tabasco and Chiapas migration stations with appointments with CBP One.

Until recently, a CBP One appointment was not accepted by Mexico's immigration authorities as a basis for legal presence in the country, and migrants heading to the U.S. border were often detained. The long journey across Mexico in search of the American Dream poses numerous challenges and risks for migrants, such as gang and government activity, illness, arbitrary detention and fraud.

CBP One is a mobile application developed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) that allows migrants traveling to the U.S. border to make appointments at a border crossing to apply for entry into the United States. The app gives users the ability to book appointments with CBP agents at the border, manage documents and complete information related to travel to the border. It is used as part of immigration application processing to make the process of requesting asylum in the United States more streamlined and secure.

From its launch on January 12, 2023 through June 2024, more than 680,500 people have been assigned to file at the US border using this digital tool. In June 2024, CBP processed more than 41,800 individuals at crossings in California, Texas, and Arizona. Most migrants travel through Mexico from Venezuela, Cuba and Haiti.
