Mexico is vast and its climate varies greatly by region: from the tropics of the Caribbean coast to the eternal spring of the highlands. Here is the weather and best time to move in 2026.
Climate by region
| Region | Climate |
|---|---|
| Caribbean coast (Cancun, Tulum) | Tropical year-round, 25–33°C |
| Yucatan (Merida) | Hot and humid, peak heat Apr-Jun |
| Highlands (Mexico City, San Miguel) | Mild spring year-round |
| Pacific coast | Warm, drier in winter |
Two seasons
- Dry season (Nov-Apr): the best time — sunny, less humid.
- Wet season (May-Oct): rains are usually short, in the afternoon.
Hurricane season
In the Atlantic and Caribbean it runs June 1 to November 30, peaking August-October. The Riviera Maya occasionally sees tropical storms; modern housing is prepared, but it is worth considering when moving.
Sargassum
Seaweed appears on the Caribbean coast in spring and summer. Some beaches may be covered with sargassum, but resorts clear it.
When is best to move
The best window is November-March: dry, comfortable, outside hurricane and sargassum season. It is also the best time to view housing and settle in.
