How to notify the Mexico Migration Service of a change of address

One of the responsibilities of a Mexican resident is the need to notify the migration service of each change of residence. You must do this within 90 days of moving. Failure to notify or notify late will result in a fine. But in fact, no one will check exactly when you changed your place of residence. Moreover, if you have moved within the same city and do not plan to contact another migration service office, you can not notify about the change of address, but the next time you contact the migration service, you will always have to indicate the address that you indicated when you first applied. This address will remain in the migration service database as the address of your place of residence, and we will tell you below how to find it out if you have forgotten it.

So, the only rational need to notify the migration service about a change of address — this is when you want to contact the migration service office at a new address. In other words, you have moved to another municipality. You need to notify the new migration service office of a change of address, not the old one. Only after notification are you able to go there for any migration stage.

Most often, the sequence of actions for notifying the migration service is as follows:

  • prepare documents,
  • contact the migration service office and receive a situ (appointment) to submit on a specific day and time,
  • come to the site and submit documents,
  • you receive confirmation that the notification has been accepted.

The two main documents you will have to generate are — This is a “tramite”, or an application for carrying out the migration stage for a change of address in the migration service database, and, in fact, a notification of a change of home address.

9. Fill out the application (tram) on the migration service website according to these instructions. In the drop-down lists, select Notificar cambios (residentes temporales y permanentes) and Notificación de cambio de domicilio. Next, fill in the fields with your data. Please indicate the new address ၃ just rewrite it the same way it is written on the utility bill you bring as proof of address. The form must be printed out in duplicate, signed and taken with you to submit the documentation. A separate form must be filled out for each family member. If you are harassing a child, then at the end of the questionnaire, in the penultimate block ǩEn su caso, persona autorizada para tramitar, oír o recibir notificaciones͊…

Information in this block is available to registered users. Registration is simple and free.Entrance

Please also prepare other papers or confirmations and their copies.

3. Resident card + copy on both sides.

4. International passport + copy of the photo spread. They don't always require it, but take it just in case.

5. Confirmation of home address — a utility bill no older than three months in any name. This is what is called comprobante de domicilio. From it you will rewrite the new address. A copy is sufficient.

6. If you indicated yourself as the responsible person in the child’s application, then add a copy of your international passport to the child’s set of papers.

You can sign up to submit papers to the selected migration service office online by following thisinstructions. Registration times (queue) vary depending on the state, but most often do not exceed several weeks.

Come to the migration service office on the appointed day and time (according to the sieve), submit the papers, you are asked to wait and at the end they bring out a paper stating that your notice of change of residence address has been accepted. That's it, the mission of notifying the migration service about the change of residence is completed!

But you most likely notified the migration service about the change of home address in order to purchase the option to carry out any migration procedure at the new migration service office. This means that you need to take two sieves: one for submitting documents for a change of address, the second for submitting documentation for the migration procedure. Why two sieves? Because for the migration stage you will fill out a separate application («tramite»), and each application requires its own sieve.
