For those who earn well, have sufficient cash savings, own real estate or a company, Mexico offers a good option for obtaining a residence permit — according to economic viability. In short, you go to the Mexican consulate, get a resident visa, come to Mexico, change your resident visa to a resident card and get the right to live in the country. It's the same as finding«rentier visa»in other countries, only in Mexico itself it is called differently.
Basic condition — confirm your economic viability based on one of the criteria:
- salary, pension or dividends,
- bank account balance,
- owning real estate in Mexico,
- Owning a share in a public company in Mexico.
You can check the current standards (how much you should earn or have money in your account) in thispublications.
Special case — you are a freelancer, but have a confirmed source of income. You also have the right to obtain a residence permit in Mexico, but you will have to be more careful in preparing documentation for the consulate.
The economic viability assessment applies to only one spouse — the main recipient of the visa. The remaining family members receive visas and residence permits in Mexico on the basis of family ties with the main recipient on a marriage certificate (second spouse) or birth certificate (minor children or parents of the spouse). To summarize, if one of the parents meets the requirements, the whole family, and even grandparents, can obtain a residence permit in Mexico.
