Work visa — one of the easiest ways to prepare for residency status in Mexico, which is suitable for almost everyone. After 4 years, you have the opportunity to acquire permanent resident status, and after another year — apply for Mexican citizenship.

The procedure for acquiring a residence permit in Mexico for work is as follows. Based on the data on professional skills provided by the applicant, we select a working specialty. Mexican company — An employer who has permission to hire foreigners contacts the Mexican Migration Service with a request to accept a job applicant. After receiving such permission (autorización de visa por oferta de empleo) and entering all the data into the migration database, the documentation package is transferred to the applicant. This is the longest stage.
Validity period of the permit — 30 days. To obtain a work visa, the applicant must, within this period, apply to one of the Mexican consulates without reference to the country of citizenship. Together with the applicant, we select a consular department and schedule him for an interview. If you are in Mexico, you will have to travel to a diplomatic mission.
As a rule, a visa is issued on the day of visiting the consulate. Work visasticks it in the passport.
After receiving a work visa, the applicant must enter Mexico within 180 days. Entry with a work visa is guaranteed. Then, within 30 days, you need to contact the migration service to sign up to exchange your work visa for a resident card (canje). The result is a temporary residence permit with a work permit andtemporary resident cardsMexico. The card is issued on the day of submission of documents.
So, once again the main stages of obtaining a work visa and residence permit in Mexico for work:
- The employer obtains permission from the Mexican Migration Service to hire the applicant.
- The employer registers the applicant at the Mexican consular department in any country and sends him an invitation with a complete package of papers for obtaining a work visa.
- The applicant is interviewed at the consulate and receives a work visa.
- The applicant enters Mexico on a work visa.
- In Mexico, the applicant exchanges a work visa for a resident card.
There are no other mechanisms to obtain a Mexico work visa! It is not permitted to prepare a work visa while in Mexico. You cannot purchase a resident card while outside of Mexico.
The entire process from submitting a request to the migration service to issue permission to obtain a visa at the consulate to purchasing a resident card in Mexico normally takes about 4 months. Having received a residence permit, you do not need to stay in Mexico permanently, but you do need to return to the country in order to renew your resident card on time. A temporary resident card on a work visa is always issued for the first time with a validity period of 1 year. There are no exceptions. Then it is allowed to be extended for 1, 2 or 3 years, and after 4 years as a temporary resident, you can receive a permanent resident card, which no longer has an expiration date. 5 years after purchasing a temporary resident card, you will have the opportunity to apply for Mexican citizenship for the first time.
