The purpose of coming to Mexico is treatment – Migration Rules

When applying for entry to Mexico, you must indicate the purpose of your visit to the country. Most often this is «tourism». But many believe that if they say that they came to Mexico for treatment, this guarantees their entry. This is a misconception. At best, «treatment» how the purpose of coming to Mexico will not affect the prospects for entry. In the worst case — will lead to careful questioning and the need to confirm this purpose with documents.

When filling out the electronic permit to Mexico form, you can choose one of three purposes for visiting Mexico: tourism, business or other. Medical tourism — this is also tourism, but you have the right to indicate «other» (otro, as indicated in the application form). In this case, when entering Mexico, you will have to explain to the migration officer what your “other” means, and possibly confirm his documents. It is not the function of the migration officer to delve into details confirming the purpose of coming to Mexico. You will only have a few minutes to communicate with the officer, and no one will go into details of your diagnosis or choice of a Mexican clinic or doctor. The officer will either take your word for it and allow entry, or consider the purpose of your visit for «treatment» far-fetched and from being shown at the entrance.

You could show a letter from a Mexican doctor confirming that you discussed the prospect of your treatment in Mexico. In this case, the doctor must indicate his contacts and medical license number in the letter, plus attach a live copy of it. He has the right to call and ask him to confirm the information specified in the letter. Most doctors refuse to provide such a letter because they cannot be sure of the diagnosis and treatment prospects before an on-site examination.

You could offer a live letter from a Mexican clinic that they are waiting for you for treatment. No clinic will add you to the patient registry without a preliminary examination or referral from a Mexican doctor, without signing a contract and without prepayment. You are unable to sign a contract with the clinic for remote treatment. Accordingly, the letter from the Mexican clinic that you show to the immigration officer when entering Mexico will most likely be fake, and he knows it.

We very often came across fakes of various medical invitations to Mexico and realized that they often act on employees of the migration service like a red rag on a bull.

Much depends on your citizenship. In most cases, «tourism» and «treatment» for migration officer — equivalent purposes of coming to Mexico. But if you have a passport from one of the countries of Central Asia (CIS), «treatment» will most often be perceived as a ploy to avoid suspicion of migration intentions to get through Mexico to the United States. Because the number of CIS citizens who come to Mexico specifically for “treatment” has simply gone through the roof over the past year. Moreover, they come for treatment with their entire families. And why, in fact, to Mexico? According to our observations, the cause «treatment» will only worsen your chances of getting to Mexico.

Even if you really came to Mexico for treatment, you must first fulfill all the requirements for the entry of ordinary guests of countries: have a return ticket, accommodation reservation and money for the entire period of stay in Mexico. In other words, put the emphasis on the fact that you came to Mexico from vacation. Then you have the opportunity to indicate what you plan to undergo treatment. If you focus on treatment and cannot confirm this purpose of arrival or the officer does not want to delve into your medical confirmation, you risk being denied entry.

A special place is occupied by the arrival to Mexico for childbirth. Come give birth — this is the same as coming for «treatment». The Mexico Migration Service is completely normal when it comes to the entry of pregnant women. However, we still do not suggest indicating «birth» as the reason for coming to Mexico. Let this be a matter of course during your tourist visit to Mexico. Pregnancy itself has never been a reason for refusal of entry. Yes, it is rare for pregnant women to enter, but they are not allowed to enter. But the reasons for leaving Mexico are most often associated with the lack of a return ticket (many people mistakenly think that since they do not know when they have the opportunity to leave Mexico, they don’t have to buy a return ticket), the inability to confirm economic solvency, or suspicions of immigration to the United States through Mexico.
