Every year in the Mexican city of San Miguel de Allende there is a parade of crazy people. Usually this bright and cheerful event is held in June, on the first Sunday after the day of St. Antonio of Padua, which falls on June 13th.
Characters from popular fairy tales and television series, comic book heroes, sorcerers and magicians, aliens and monsters, satirical images of political figures and celebrities from all over the world fill the streets of San Miguel de Allende with a colorful and noisy crowd. Basic events take place near the Church of St. Antonio, the patron saint of the holiday.
At 10 a.m., a procession of madmen heads along the main streets towards the Central Garden. Spectators gather here to greet and celebrate the most original and stunning outfits of the «crazy». Those, for their part, try to gain recognition from the public by scattering all kinds of sweets and souvenirs. Sophisticated spectators are already ready for this “bribe” and open their umbrellas, brought for protection from the sun, so that more gifts can be poured in. The costumes of the parade participants, made from all sorts of scrap materials - old clothes, cardboard boxes, wire, polyethylene, plastic, canvas, papier mache, amaze with their colorfulness and ingenuity.
